"Pensacola has been great to us on twelfth Avenue, we take a stiff guest base with regular customers that dine with it, sometimes multiple times a week," said Ryan Rhoades, Cactus Cantina director of operations. "We've been, in our opinion, very well received in Pensacola, so we do desire to grow."

The new eating place volition open in the space at 22. S. Palafox St. that currently houses  Beef 'O' Brady's. Tracy Goodson, Beef 'O' Brady's property possessor and franchisee, confirmed earlier this week that the eating house will close this weekend.

Goodson said the day-to-day grind of restaurant ownership fabricated him and his wife unwilling to commit to some other ten-year franchise agreement. The couple also runs two other Beef 'O' Brady's locations — one at 2101 W. Nine Mile Road in Pensacola and the other at 344 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze — that will not be closing.

"We've been in the concern for 10 years and our x-year franchise came up, so we could accept either renewed the franchise or we could rent the building out, 'cause we own the building," Goodson said of the determination to shut the Palafox location. "It'due south been a very successful shop, we just don't desire to renew for some other 10 years.

Instead, the couple will lease the Palafox property to main Cactus Cantina owner Michael Lane and his two business organization partners. Goodson told the News Journal on Tuesday that the transition from Beef 'O' Brady's to Cactus Cantina has been in the works since the end of 2018.

The downtown Cactus Cantina will continue intact much of the interior layout of Beef 'O' Brady's and only pocket-size renovations and cleanup will be necessary.

The incoming Mexican restaurant is targeting an opening appointment in May. That date could come as early as May 6.

"Cinco de Mayo is our biggest day of the year only we don't desire to open up a new location and non have it go well," Rhoades said. "Any time that y'all open up a restaurant, out of the 14 that I've opened in my career, not one of them's been on fourth dimension because of construction or permits. And so, we're shooting for May 6 merely probably wouldn't want to hope that to the public and and then non live up to it."

Rhoades added that the room in the back of Beef 'O' Brady'southward that contained additional seating separate from the main dining area will go the Cactus Cantina conference room, hosting seated parties of up to 25 people and receptions up to 40.

The riser on the chief floor near the archway should seat parties of 25-thirty, Rhoades said, and Cactus Cantina will keep some, but not all, of the arcade games.

"We're going to have out the air hockey and the pool table then it'southward not then much of a bar feeling," Rhoades said. "We really want to be seen as a family restaurant with just a few games for kids."

Most, if not all of the Palafox Beef 'O' Brady's employees will be reassigned to work at the eating house's other ii locations on Nine Mile Route and Gulf Cakewalk Parkway, said Rhoades. He added that anyone not retained by Beef 'O' Brady's will exist hired to work at the downtown Cactus Cantina.

"Anyone that's employed there that (Goodson) doesn't take room for we'll gladly hire," Rhoades said.

The 12th Avenue Cactus Cantina opened in 2014. Rhoades said he'due south excited to see Cactus Cantina serve a new demographic for many years to come.

"Downtown is a keen opportunity," he said. "In that location's the Gallery Nights that are really stiff. Having that parking garage behind the states I recollect is going to assistance us be easily accessible to people driving in. There'southward Southtowne just a couple blocks away. So downtown has come and then far the by ten-15 years and we're excited about serving Pensacola in that area."
